Pod Systems
A pod system is a compact vaping device that uses pods (small cartridges) to hold e-liquid and a coil. Pods can be prefilled (ready-to-use) or refillable (you add your own e-liquid). Pods click into the device and are easy to replace.
Pod vapes usually activate when you inhale (draw-activated) or sometimes by pressing a button. The battery powers the coil in the pod, which heats the e-liquid into vapour you inhale.
Yes — refillable and rechargeable pod systems are still legal. The UK banned single-use disposable vapes, but pods with replaceable or refillable cartridges (and rechargeable batteries) remain compliant.
Prefilled pods: Come filled with e-liquid from the factory — you replace the whole pod when empty.
Refillable pods: You refill them with your own e-liquid and often replace just the coil when needed.
Both types click into the device easily.
Pod lifespan varies with usage and e-liquid choice, but most refillable pods or their coils last about 1–2 weeks before flavour drops or vapour reduces.
Pod systems work best with nicotine salt e-liquids (smooth throat hit) but also support freebase e-liquids depending on the device. Nic salts are popular in pods because of their quick satisfaction.
UK law caps nicotine e-liquid at 20 mg/ml (2%) — that applies to pods too. You’ll find pod-friendly nicotine salt strengths at 6 mg, 10 mg, 12 mg and 20 mg commonly.
Pod devices are simple, discreet, and mimic smoking more closely than larger vape kits. Their ease-of-use and satisfying nicotine delivery make them good for people transitioning from cigarettes.
Good-quality pod systems are designed to minimise leaking because pods snap securely into place and often include rubber seals. However, overfilling or incorrect pod seating can still cause minor leaks.
Most pods charge with USB-C or micro-USB. Basic maintenance includes charging fully before use, cleaning the pod contacts occasionally, and replacing pods/coils when flavour or vapour drops.
